Here are the last of my shots of the windy, wavy east side of Bonaire, from a week ago.
Check out the big hunks of coral that were broken off and kicked up on the shore by hurricane Ivan back in 2004.
(more about Ivan on blog post from Oct. 13, 2004)
Brad Swanson reports on the happenings in and around Trans World Radio's station on the island of Bonaire. TWR Bonaire broadcasts Gospel music and Bible teaching programs which can be heard in Latin America and the Caribbean: in the Spanish, English, Portuguese, Baniwa, and Macuxi languages.

Live Valentines Day Show
The Muhe de Speransa (Women of Hope) team here on Bonaire did a live Valentines Day special yesterday evening on the Voice of Hope, 89.5FM.
Here are a few photos from the event.
The Valentines Day program is now available on TWR360 in the Muhe di Speransa section.
(I have the TWR360 app on both my Android and iOS cell phones. It comes up in Papiamentu, since it can tell I'm on Bonaire - or something like that)

Mars Points the Way To Uranus
Back on December 8, Mars was close to Neptune, but Neptune was still pretty hard to spot.Well, during the next couple evenings, Mars is passing by Uranus. Uranus is easy to spot in binoculars, compared to Neptune, even with the Moon hanging out nearby. Sandra and I spotted Uranus Saturday evening, no problem.
On Sunday evening, the crescent moon is near Mars. Mars is to the north of the Moon, or to the Moon's right, if you are looking west. Once you use the Moon to find Mars, you can use your binoculars aimed at Mars to spot Uranus.I've taken screen shots from the free software Stellarium, (highly recommended) that show where Mars is compared to Uranus, on Sunday through Wednesday evenings. The bright star to the left of Mars is easy to spot, as is the right triangle that Uranus is part of. You won't see the dimmer stars shown on these screen shots, especially with the Moon nearby.
Uranus doesn't move with respect to the Stars, but the Moon is zooming Eastward from night to night, with respect to the stars, and Uranus.Monday, February 04, 2019

Friday Morning
Hi, its 05:30 here on Bonaire. The picture is what the Moon, Venus and Jupiter looked like at 05:00! I'm in the studio getting ready for a live Spanish Despertar RTM. We'll have Gabriel from Venezuela, Annabel from Chicago, and Jehiel from the Dominican Republic. I'll be playing the songs and short features from here in the studio.
We'll be on Facebook live from 6am to 7am, Bonaire time. 5 to 6 EST. The facebook page is Twr-Bonaire.

Venus, Jupiter and the Moon - Jan.31
Venus, the Moon, and Jupiter are looking great in the sky this morning. Venus is to the lower left of the Moon and Jupiter is to the Moon's upper right.
I shot them at the office and then zoomed out by the transmitter site. You can see the "fishhook" part of Scorpius to the right of the towers. The Southern Cross was shining brightly too, but it is not in the picture.
The darker picture of the towers is how it actually looked when I shot it. I brightened things up in Lightroom and I like that version too.
You can click on the images to see them larger.

Venus and Jupiter 2
Venus was shining to the left of Jupiter this morning.
Venus will move to the lower left of Jupiter on Thursday.
The star to the planets upper right is Antares.

Venus and Jupiter in the morning
Venus was to the upper left of Jupiter this morning. I shot this image with my phone while on my bike ride this am. You'll have to look at the image full screen to spot the planets, but you can get an idea of how bright they were shining when you consider how bright the sky was at that time.

2019-01-20 Lunar Eclipse
Here are a few pictures of the Lunar eclipse, shot with my trusty PowerShot SX50 HS. The gray areas of the moon always remind me of the Energizer Bunny facing to the left.
Venus and Jupiter, Jan 22, 23, 24
For all you early birds out there. If one looks to the Southeast while it is still somewhat dark-ish in the morning...
On Tuesday morning, Jan 22, Venus is going to be slightly above and to the left of Jupiter.
On Wednesday morning, Venus will be directly to the left of Jupiter (as seen from Bonaire.)
On Thursday morning, Venus will be slightly to the lower left of Jupiter.
Both planets are quite bright and will definitely look more spectacular in person that they do in photos. I'm hoping for clear skies.

Moonrise
I
was hoping to get the full moon rising over Seru Largu on Sunday
evening. But the moon was a bit too far to the East, as opposed to
Northeast. There were huge bushes blocking my line of site in the
location that I should have been shooting from.
Here is a two second long time lapse of the moon rise. I shot six pictures per minute for ten minutes. While I was shooting these images to the East, the sun set in the West with a slight green flash.

Christmas Eve Rainbow
The intense rainy season seems to have ended, but we're still getting
showers most every day.
Here is a Christmas Eve. rainbow I spotted at the office.

Bike Ride Bust
I slashed by rear bike tire the other morning, while riding through a
rock filled gully out in the middle of nowhere.
I walked out to the Lagoon Road and shot this picture while I was waiting for Jonas Fischer to pick me up. Thanks Jonas!
It was a beautiful morning and I was glad to be outside to enjoy it, even if I wasn't on my bike as planned.

Comet Wirtanen II
Sandra and I observed Comet Wirtanen last night from our back yard in Hato. There was a about a 15 minute period of clear dark skies after sunset and before the moon rise. The comet was very close to the bright star Capella. As seen from Bonaire, the comet was a teeny bit to the lower right of Capella last night. When I had Capella centered in my 10x50 binoculars, the comet was half way to the edge of the field of view.
Capella is super helpful in knowing where to look for the comet right now. The comet should be a bit to the lower left of Capella tonight. It looks like a pretty large dim fuzzy spot in the sky. If the sky is dark and clear enough that you can see M38, M36 and M37, also located in the constellation Auriga you'll be able to spot Comet Wirtanen. The surface brightness of the comet was more like that of M38 than the slightly brighter M36, and it covers a much larger area than these Messier objects.
Here is a screen shot from the free software, Stellarium. The red X shows where the comet will be tonight. The red dot shows where it was last night.
